Churches

The Christian faith is central to life at King's.

Children from King's are very involved in the life of all the Kew Churches, and we welcome and celebrate those from other faiths.

The whole school attend services at St Anne's, three times a year, to celebrate some key events in The Christian calendar:

  • Carol Service
  • Palm Sunday (Monday)
  • Pentecost

Children participate actively in the services through bible readings and prayers.

In attending services at St Anne's, children learn about the church service, its structure, formalities and traditions. They experience different music, prayers and bible readings.

Our vicars, Father Giles and Rev Melanie, lead a weekly Collective Worship. All children are invited to share in a time of reflection and prayer with a Christian focus.

In addition, the school holds an annual Christmas and Summer concert at St Anne's, celebrating the wonderful music of the school orchestra, the choir and curriculum music.

Admission to Communion

Since January 2023 Father Giles and Reverend Melanie have invited children in Year 3 and above to their Admission to Communion course they jointly run.

The Kew Churches of St Anne's, St Luke's and St Philip & All Saints (the Barn Church) will be offering an admission to communion course in Jan/Feb 2025.  One way that children can enter more fully into our worship in the Church of England is by starting to receive communion. This can happen after a short course of preparation.  It is different to confirmation, which can follow later, when promises made in baptism are reflected upon and confirmed. Confirmation often happens when children are secondary school age or older as adults. We will run the course for children in Year 3 and above. Faith is nurtured in the home, and so we will ask parents or guardians to attend the course as well. This will enable you to support your child as they are admitted to communion and might also give you an opportunity to think through some of your own questions about faith. The expectation would be for attendance at all three sessions as well as a special admission to communion service where your church family and worshipping community can welcome each child to their first communion.

For further information and to register directly please contact the Parish Office at St Luke's at: office@kewbenefice.org The deadline for registering on the course will be Monday 13th January 2025

St Anne's is the beautiful Queen Anne building on Kew Green, St Philip's [the Barn Church] is a unique timbered structure, with an interesting history, dating back to Tudor times, and St Luke's is a Victorian church which doubles as a major local community centre.

We are so fortunate in Kew to have such historically-fascinating churches.  For more details about them and information about services, please visit their websites.
