Christian Ethos
Vision Statement:
“Encouraging every child to reach their full potential – nurtured and supported in a Christian community that lives and learns by the values of love, compassion and respect”.
John 13:34 “Love one another as I have loved you.”
The theological basis of our vision is rooted in our belief that we are created in the image of God and called to be the fullest reflection of that image. This is underpinned by Biblical teaching such as:
Genesis 1:26 "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness"
John 10:10 "I came that they might have life, and have it abundantly"
As a Christian community, and in common with many other world faiths, we encourage the children of The King’s Church of England Primary School to behave towards one another in the same way as they would expect others to behave towards them.
‘Living and learning by the values of Love, Compassion, Respect’
Treating others with 'love, compassion and respect' embodies the commandment of Jesus to 'love one another as I have loved you'. (John 13:34, John 15:12)
When we know the love of Christ for us in our lives, then we can begin to reach our full potential. When we know that we are loved by Christ, who is there when we are in need, then we can be compassionate and respectful towards others.
These values guide our decision making, our Behaviour Policy, our Golden Rules and the way we interact with each other and our school community.
Love: towards God, towards self, towards others
Children learn to show love by:
- Being kind to others
- Thinking about others, not just themselves
- Doing something for someone else
- Being a good friend
Compassion: through humility and forgiveness
Children learn to show compassion by:
- Thinking how it might feel for someone else
- Reflecting on words and actions
- Supporting other people when they are learning or playing
Respect : care for each other, our school, our community and our world
Children learn to show respect by:
- Listening and responding politely to adults and other children
- Following our Golden Rules
- Taking care of their belongings, their classroom, their school and the environment
School Prayers and Hymns
We have several prayers that we say throughout the school day. Our School Prayer is:

Lunchtime: A class prayer is shared before children go to lunch.
This can be either one of the following lunchtime prayers or children’s own prayers.

A New Commandment
At the King's School, we have adopted 'A New Commandment' as our School Hymn to help children develop a sense of belonging and community linked to the School Vision and the Scripture (John 13:34-34) on which the hymn is based. The hymn is sung weekly and on special occasions. Please see below for the lyrics:
